What is a Domain Name?
A Domain Name (also called a "web address", "web name", or just a ".com") is simply an address for a website. Vimsoft.com is an example of a domain name. When you enter a domain name into a web browser, internet servers locate its corresponding website to display on your computer. Domain names may also be used for personalized email addresses such as support@ Vimsoft.com. Every Vimsoft website plan includes at least one domain name. Your domain names can be anything you like as long as they meet our Terms of Service requirements and are not already registered. If the domain names you want are already registered, we will work with you to find alternatives. If you would like to purchase a domain name without ordering our website plans, visit our partner website www.VimDomains.com for the best values on the Web!
What is a Domain Name Extension?
A Domain Name Extension is the part of the domain name that comes after the dot. For example .COM is the domain name extension for Vimsoft.com. Domain names may have different extensions. The .COM extension is the most popular extension. The .ORG extension is often used for non-profit organizations. And .NET is often used for internet or network related websites. Other popular domain name extensions are .biz, .ca, .cc, .co.uk, .eu, .info, .me, .mobi, .tv, .us, and .ws. The extension does not affect the website's content or performance. While .COM is the most popular, other extensions are often used if the .COM is already registered to someone, or if a different extension helps provide more clarity to visitors about a website's content or purpose.
Why would I need more than 1 domain name?
While only one primary domain is usually active, businesses and organizations often have more than one domain name for a variety of reasons. Some like to reserve additional domain names for their slogan or tagline. Or an alternate domain name may be used to showcase a current promotion or event. And of course because there are multiple domain extensions in addition to .COM, such as .NET and .ORG, there is often a desire to reserve them as well. Multiple domain names can point to the same website, so there's no need for extra web hosting. For example for our website, Vimsoft.net points to Vimsoft.com so when visitors type in Vimsoft.net they are redirected to Vimsoft.com. Vimsoft's deluxe and premium website plans include additional domain names which can be used for whatever you like.
